On 5-9-2022 we installed our new officers for our club.

Finally #32

Our 32nd Chinese Auction finally happened.

The past few years have been difficult for non-profits.  With Covid and locations unable to allow groups, we were not able to hold our auction.
This year we were able to hold it at a new location, day and time.

We held the auction at Chestnut Elementary on Saturday, August 30th. Rather than holding it in the evening it was held in the afternoon.

It was a huge success, and everyone had a great time.  We had a food truck set up outside for our guests to get food.

 

First live Fundraiser 

On August 22 we held our first live event since all of these Covid issues started.

We held our first PURSES & PASTRIES EVENT

It was held at the Lake County Historical Society barn.  Such a beautiful place

Every guest brings a purse.  We provide pastries and beverages for snacks.

When your number is called you get to choose a purse from the ones brought.  A lot of fun.

School Suplies

 

We were glad to help United Way out in July.  They collected school supplies to ensure children from low-income families have everything needed to start the school year off right and ready to learn.

Ground Breaking Ceremony

 

We were busy this June.  Not only did we hand out scholarships but we were busy digging dirt.  We made a donation to Broadmoor School - Lake County Board of DD-Deepwood.  They are building an adaptive playground for the children of the school.

We are so proud to have helped in this project.  Pictured above on the far right is our member Kay Hatala helping break ground and representing our club.

On June 7th we held a small Scholarship presentation.

Due to Covid our fundraising was put to a halt and in-kind donations were just not there.  We made the tough decision to reduce our normal number of scholarships from 5 to 3.  All 3 we gave to returning students.

We wish the students the best in 2021 and hope next year we will be able to support more students.

 

Together Again

 Our group was finally able to meet in person again.

We met at Ridgewood Grill and our first order of business was to install our new officers.

Quota International changes

Something happened this year to our International "parent" organization.

Like most non for profits today, we have a had a tough time staying afloat.

As of September 2020, Quota International will dissolve.

This has been a very hard decision for our members to decide to upon and accept.  It did not come easy.  We have worked so hard for 100 years in helping women & children in need and the deaf in our local communities and throughout the world.

This DOES NOT mean that the Lake County Club is going anywhere.    We will remain a club and continue on helping our local community!

We will change our club name from QUOTA INTERNATIONAL OF LAKE COUNTY to QUOTA OF LAKE COUNTY.  We will drop International from our name.  Our club has held a strong presence at the international level. We have had members in the offices of Governors, secretaries, treasures and more.  Our current Region 2 Director, Karen Gridley, is from our club.  Our first Region 2 director, Kay Hatala was also from our club.

This is a sad and hard time for all of our international clubs and members.  As Quota members we will find ways to accept the change and move on.  We are QUOTA STRONG!

2020 what a crazy year

So let's update you on what Lake Co. club has been doing.  Honestly not much, thanks to COVID. 
So far we had to:

• Cancel our annual trip for our Region Meeting in April
• Cancel our annual Chinese Auction in April
• Stop holding our monthly meetings
• Cancel out scholarship picnic
• Cancel out trip to our International Convention in July in Grand Rapids, Michigan

So what have we done about all this? 

• We did manage to hold a meeting in June at our president Kay's house.  We all sat 6ft apart and wore our masks, when not eating.  It was so good to see everyone again
• Our scholarship committee, managed to get together via emails and preview the applicants for our Janice Southworth Scholarships.
• We did put together several bags to be handed out to students that needed personal hygiene products, dental care and books.  Members Karen & Kay went and purchased the items that the club voted on.  Kay got them to the organization collecting them.
• Our club was also able to organize a scholarship drive thru for our scholarship recipients, last night (7/13/20).

Our recipients drove thru the drive way at the Lake Co Historical Society with the signs (above) on their cars.  Then each one got out and was presented with their check, certificate & cupcake.  We did the best we could to try and make this event special for them.

Make a Difference Day

October 26th is Make a Difference Day.

QI of Lake County took over the 10:30 session of Clothe a Child.

Clothe a Child (CAC) is a nonprofit organization that pairs a child with a shopper.  Each shopper is given a budget and voucher to take a child shopping for shoes and clothes.  Shopping is done at The Shoe Dept. and JCPenny in the Great Lakes Mall in Mentor, Ohio.  

Shoppers discuss with the parent to see what is most needed.  The kids get to choose their clothes and just enjoy a couple of hours focused on them.

CAC has shopping times Monday - Thursday 5, 5:30, 6 & 6:30pm and Saturday 10:30 & 11am.  All the funds used are from donations to CAC.

This is just one of the local projects that QI of Lake County supports thru service and donations.

United Way Day of Caring

June 27th, we participated in United Way Day of Caring.

Local kids enjoyed a cookout, games, prizes, face painting and sit in a real race car.

Quota members manned the games and face painting.  At the end of the day there was a candy drop.  The kids got to go home with bags of candy.  We had beautiful weather and everyone had a great time.

This year Quota International celebrated 100 years of service in February.

Region 2 Meeting

April 12, 13, and 14th was our Regional meeting in Mentor, Ohio.

31st Chinese Auction

Our 31st annual Chinese Auction was a great success last night.

New location, new announcers and even some new auction events made for a great evening.

Quota Cares Month

March is Quota Cares Month.  Each Quota club is challenged to do something for children or women during the month.  We in Lake County took on a few events.

 March 10th, several of us spent the day at Broadmoor School.  This school helps the special needs children.

We came up with a craft and helped them with it.  Played games, did puzzles and then had a snack.

We also put together bags for other students that could not be with us this day. 

Then on March 24th, we helped out at the Easter Egg hunt at the North Mentor Centenary Methodist Church.  This is one that we help out with every year.  Children get to come for the day and just have fun, see a puppet show, do crafts, pet service animals and get a picture with the Easter Bunny.

 The funnest thing to see is watching the kids in the Sensory Easter grass room.  It is a classroom that is filled with Easter grass. They go in and just play in the grass.
